Are you keen to build body strength? How about enjoying a tranquil walk at the same time?

Welcome to Pilates & Promenades – Your Private Sessions in Verbier & Val de Bagnes, Switzerland

Rediscover Your Strength and Confidence

Welcome to Pilates & Promenades, where we empower you to embrace your body and enhance your well-being through tailored Pilates sessions with scenic promenades. Our focus is on guiding individuals, especially women post-pregnancy and those over 40, to strengthen and tone their bodies in a supportive and relaxed environment. We also offer private sessions for men, ensuring that everyone can benefit from our unique approach, regardless of their fitness level or experience.

Why Choose Pilates & Promenades?

Pilates is a fantastic way to improve core strength, flexibility, and overall body tone. It’s particularly beneficial for targeting areas that many of us want to focus on, such as tightening the tummy, enhancing upper arm definition, strengthening the back and front of the armpits, and firming up those wobbly bottoms. Whether you’re looking to regain your pre-pregnancy shape, enhance your athletic performance, revitalise lost muscle form, or simply feel young again, Pilates is the perfect solution for everyone. And, by combining our Pilates sessions with invigorating promenades through the beautiful Swiss landscape we have here in Verbier & the Val de Bagnes, we offer a truly unique experience that allows you to enjoy the fresh air and stunning scenery while engaging your core and toning your body. The added benefit of walking up and down hills during our promenades will also help to tone and firm up your backside.

Meet Sophie

I’m Sophie, the founder of Above & Beyond but I have also been teaching Pilates sessions since 2018, and am one of the dedicated Pilates & Promenades trainers we have at Above & Beyond Verbier. As someone in my 40s with over six years of experience teaching private pilates sessions, along with twelve years of experience in ski instruction, I bring a wealth of knowledge to my classes.

My journey has not been without its hurdles; I faced significant challenges when I broke both of my ankles during my seventh month of pregnancy in 2023. Since my last operation in December 2024, to remove the pins and plates from my ankle, I have been hiking lots around Valais with my son, and I am now excited to return to teaching and inspire others on their fitness journeys.

Sophie and our other trainers are available for 1 hour pilates matt sessions, or 1.5 hour or longer pilates & promenades sessions around Verbier & the Val de Bagnes region.

Verbier & the Val de Bagnes

Nestled in the heart of the Swiss Alps, Verbier and the Val de Bagnes region provides an idyllic backdrop for hiking and promenades, and therefore the perfect playground for Pilates in the outdoors. With breathtaking mountain vistas and charming pastures dotted with grazing cows, every step immerses you in nature’s beauty.

The ancient bisse waterways, winding through lush forests, offer a refreshing respite from the sun’s warmth, creating shaded pathways perfect for leisurely strolls or invigorating Pilates sessions.

Whether you’re seeking serene walks or challenging hikes, this enchanting landscape beautifully balances adventure with tranquillity, making it an ideal destination for both fitness enthusiasts and nature lovers alike.

Our Approach

At Pilates & Promenades, I offer private, one-on-one Pilates sessions designed specifically for you. Each session is tailored to meet your individual needs, taking into account your body’s unique requirements and fitness level. I will guide you through easy-to-follow exercises, ensuring you feel comfortable and confident every step of the way.

Combining Pilates with Promenades

In addition to traditional Pilates sessions, we offer unique promenades that combine Pilates exercises with invigorating walks in beautiful natural settings. This approach allows you to enjoy the fresh air and stunning Swiss scenery while engaging your core and toning your body, including your backside. These sessions are perfect for those who enjoy being outdoors and want to incorporate movement into their routine in a fun and refreshing way.

Bring a Friend!

Why not invite a friend to join you for a Pilates & Promenades session? The optimum group size is 2-4 people, but I can accommodate classes of up to 6 or even provide a personal session for just one person. Exercising in a garden setting or during a scenic walk can create a refreshing and inspiring atmosphere, making your experience even more enjoyable and motivating!

Online Options Available

For added convenience, I also offer indoor Pilates mat sessions at your home in Verbier & the Val der Bagnes, but also Pilates classes via Zoom, allowing you to enjoy your sessions from wherever you are. This flexibility ensures that you can maintain your fitness routine, no matter your schedule or location.

In-Person Classes

For in-person Pilates & Promenades sessions, I cover the beautiful Val de Bagnes area, including Bruson, Verbier, Versegères, Vollèges, and Le Châble. Whether in your home, garden, or enjoying a lovely promenade, I will create an engaging environment to help you achieve your fitness goals.

Getting Started: Simple Exercises to Try at Home

Before your first Pilates & Promenades session, here are a few gentle exercises you can try at home to get acquainted with Pilates and prepare your body:

1. Pelvic Tilts

– How to do it: Lie on your back with your knees bent and feet flat on the floor. Gently tilt your pelvis upward, flattening your lower back against the mat. Hold for a few seconds, then release.

– Benefits: Strengthens your abdominal muscles and improves lower back flexibility.

 2. The Hundred

– How to do it: Lie on your back with your legs in a tabletop position (knees bent at 90 degrees). Lift your head, neck, and shoulders off the mat. Pump your arms up and down while breathing in for five counts and out for five counts. Aim for 100 pumps!

– Benefits: Engages your core and increases blood flow.

3. Knee Folds

– How to do it: Lie on your back with your knees bent. Slowly lower one knee towards the mat while keeping the other knee bent. Alternate between legs.

– Benefits: Helps with core stability and strengthens the abdominal muscles.

4. Side-Lying Leg Lifts

– How to do it: Lie on your side with your legs straight. Lift your top leg up towards the ceiling and lower it back down without touching your bottom leg. Repeat on both sides.

– Benefits: Tones the outer thighs and strengthens the hip muscles.

5. Hill Walks

– How to do it: Find a gentle hill or incline and walk up and down, engaging your glutes and hamstrings. This will help tone and firm up your backside.

– Benefits: Strengthens the muscles in your buttocks and legs, improving the overall shape and tone of your backside.
