Today, on August 1st, we honor Swiss Day, a joyous celebration of Switzerland’s history and culture. This day marks the anniversary of the founding of the Swiss Confederation in 1291 when the original cantons of Uri, Schwyz, and Nidwalden formed a defensive alliance. This momentous union laid the foundation for the Switzerland we know today, embodying values of independence, solidarity, and unity.

In the stunning Valais region, particularly in vibrant Verbier, Zermatt, and neighbouring areas, we embrace the beautiful essence of Switzerland.

Our day may start with a refreshing hike, mountain biking adventure, or climbing some of the region’s breathtaking cliffs, surrounded by remarkable landscapes. Whether we traverse serene trails, tackle challenging routes, or enjoy a peaceful picnic amidst the stunning Alpine scenery, these moments remind us of the simple joys that nature offers. For the adventurous spirits, paragliding offers a thrilling way to experience the stunning scenery from above, soaring high in the sky with the wind in our hair.

After our outdoor adventures, we’ll indulge in a traditional Swiss feast featuring either Raclette or Fondue, two iconic dishes that melt our hearts and warm our stomachs. Whether we savour gooey, melted cheese over boiled potatoes and pickles with Raclette or dip bread into a rich cheese fondue, the flavours of Switzerland will delight. To perfectly complement this delightful meal, we’ll raise our glasses to a bottle of Petite Arvine or Fondant, local wines that embody the rich terroir of Valais.

As we relish our meal, the majestic landscapes of Verbier and Zermatt surround us, creating a breathtaking atmosphere for our celebrations.

Throughout the day, the lively street parties in Verbier, Zermatt, and neighbouring areas come alive with cheerful music, local festivities and artisans fostering a vibrant sense of community. The celebrations culminate in a stunning light show that illuminates the night sky, adding a magical touch to this special day.

As we celebrate everything wonderful about Switzerland today, let’s take a moment to appreciate the rich history, delicious food, stunning landscapes, and the thrill of adventure that makes our nation truly special. Happy Swiss Day to everyone!
